Reading a Relationship Book
is What Smart Guys Do

Photobucket

There are so many good relationship books available but these are just a few we have read and really enjoyed. (These would be good for women to read too!):

You Just Don't Understand-Deborah Tannen
Excellent book about the differences between women and men in how we talk to each other and the underlying assumptions we make that can lead to misunderstandings in relationships.

Getting The Love You Want-Harville Hendrix
This is a fascinating and extremely helpful book about how couples are drawn to each other for all kinds of reasons you wouldn’t believe, most of them unconscious, and how to get to know yourself and your partner better, how to communicate effectively, etc. Very practical. Also available is the companion book, Getting the Love You Want Workbook, The New Couple’s Study Guide.

What Women Want Men to Know-Barbara De Angelis
Practically any book by Barbara D’Angelis is worthwhile. She is very easy to read, user-friendly and extremely helpful in understanding a lot of basic stuff that most of us just don’t realize.

Creating Union-Eva Pierrakos & Judith Saly
This is a purely spiritual approach to relationship and talks about its real meaning. This is not your average how-to book. Very deep and may require numerous readings over a period of years before it sinks in. If you have the fundamentals down pat, like how to be a good listener, how to be romantic, etc. then you might be ready for a deeper look at what this men and women stuff is all about.

Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus-John Gray
This one has been around a while but the principles remain the same. If you want to understand the opposite sex better then this is a good primer.

Love and Awakening-John Welwood
This book talks about love and commitment as a sacred and spiritual journey. It combines psychology and spirituality in a beautifully written format. For couples who want to take their love affair to a higher level.

If Only He Knew - What No Woman Can Resist-Gary Smalley
This book is geared toward married men but the ideas are good for any man who is committed to a woman. Helpful to men, with a Christian leaning, especially those who think everything is hunky dory, right up to the day their wife asks for a divorce.

The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate -Gary Chapman
Discover your partner’s and your own love language. How do you express love? How does your partner want love expressed to her? This book explains how the expressions of love she needs may differ from what you need.

Couple Skills-Matthew McKay, Patrick Fanning, and Kim Paleg
Terrific and helpful book that focuses on what you can DO to make changes in your relationship. Talks about specific skills like negotiation, problem-solving, and handling anger.

Buy one of these or browse the titles at your local bookstore. Maybe you've never read a relationship book in your life but a good one can really open your eyes and make you think about things in a whole different way.
